After deciding to get the game, I had a quick nose around the community to see how everything was going. Would there be bugs? Quick patches? Yep, 1.02 already...and a complete balls up of printed serial keys, online activation, and EA's new policy of "if you're dumb on a forum and get banned, you're also banned from playing any of the games". Link.
Well, its actually going to be a bit nastier for those who get banned.

Your forum account will be directly tied to your Master EA Account, so if we ban you on the forums, you would be banned from the game as well since the login process is the same. And you'd actually be banned from your other EA games as well since its all tied to your account. So if you have SPORE and Red Alert 3 and you get yourself banned on our forums or in-game, well, your SPORE account would be banned to. It's all one in the same, so I strongly reccommend people play nice and act mature.

All in all, we expect people to come on here and abide by our ToS. We hate banning people, it makes our lives a lot tougher, but its what we have to do.

Those banned will stay banned, but like most other internet services, its not that hard to create a new fake e-mail account. However, its a lot harder to get a new serial key =)

Avatars should be back within 2 weeks of the launch.

Update: Now this is no longer happening, thankfully, so you can ignore this little rant. APOC post is here. Utterly ridiculous. People should rightly be blasting EA's absolutely ineptitude right now, probably breaking the TOS along the way, and in doing so being banned from playing what they've bought. Forum moderation is not an exact science - in fact, it's generally closer to a collection of monkeys being overseen by a couple of monkeys that have figured out how to wield a stick - so this should be overturned immediately.

With the CD keys, they failed to have the last digit of the 20 digit code printed on a fairly large amount of manuals, so enjoy trying 0-9 and a-z and getting online. APOC says:
SERIAL KEY ISSUE #1 - My key says it is invalid and I cannot get online

There were a small amount of keys in the early distribution which were not pre-loaded in to our backend, thus that is why it's tell you it is invalid. This is a similar issue we experienced during the Beta Test. This will be resolved by the end of day TODAY. By tonight, or at latest tomorrow morning, anyone experiencing this particular issue should be able to get online without a problem. Many of you may not even experience this.

SERIAL KEY ISSUE #2 - My manual has 19 digits instead of 20 for the serial key

To our misfortune, another small set of the first run of manuals misprinted the serial keys, leaving one digit off. Our Customer Support team will be posting a simple FAQ proces at where you can contact them and they will quickly help you fix your key.

Activating serials is also a problem as the servers handling the requests are, apparantly, being overloaded.

Have fun playing!
