Anti-air defence: vital for base defence against Kirov airships. just one nearly killed you. Imagine if he sent at least three? (One of my most frequently used tactics, works well). Sea control, assuming it was based on one giant island that was a good take over of the game. If you don't have enough money, leave the Apoc. mob at home and build cheaper tanks. A unit that you should have used would be the Siege Chopper, works well for getting rid of annoying defences.

i think he should of pushed more as if you knew you had control of the seas and out numbered his tank force and he had no money i would have pushed him off the map before he had a chance to launch the kirok also make sure you can see all ways into your base as its alot easier to defend if you can see the attack coming

use stray units, like infantry or cheap tanks, and place them ahead of your base so you can see whats coming (you'll know your opponent is attacking if the unit dies)

if your playing red alert you can just use the dogs you send out to scout to just go in and out of your base from every way possible then go and sneak around your enemies base to give you a good idea of whats happening on the map

excatly so leaving troops there is a waste as long as youve scouted it

i mean, you are not constantly looking at the MINIMAP because you have a base to take care of and an army to build. thus the purpose of the scouts

as for deployable outposts, Paratroopers (GI's) and siege choppers are neat and masterminds too.
