» Mission Two - Hollywood and Vain


Location: Los Angeles/Hollywood, California
Par Time: 60 minutes
    Mission Objectives:
  1. Destroy all Grinders in the city
  2. Destroy all Yuri structures

Briefing:
Yuri has mind controlled the population of Los Angeles and is feeding the civilians into his Grinders to fund his Psychic Dominator project. If we can eliminate the Grinders, Yuri will have lost a significant source of funds.

  • Walkthrough:
    Start by deploying your MCV and sending your GI's into buildings surrounding your base, be sure to put at least two in each building so they are more effective, put your GGI's(Guardian GI's) in a half circle in front of your base and if you go far enough north you'll gain control of Flint Westwood use him to eliminate any initiates and yuri clones that wonder near your base and have him run behind your GGI's when you see tanks coming. Next build pp, barracks and refinery. Build a ring of pillboxes that are in each others range, about four, on the northern half of you base and put them as far away from your base as possible and then put GGI's behind the pillboxes, this prevents yuri clones from taking over your GGI's one at a time. Next build a war factory and build a chrono miner. Build a second refinery and sell it. Then build AFC and battle lab. Build a few seals after the AFC to help against infantry attacks. You may have noticed that you can build grand cannons(GC) in this mission after you have an AFC I would suggest you not use them unless you are really having trouble fending off Yuri attacks which are few and far between.

    After you have a battle lab up, build a spy sat to see the city and a huge Yuri base that extends across the top third of the map, it looks intimidating, however it isn't. Build four prism and four mirage tanks and start destroying the Grinders. I would suggest start with the Grinder in the lower right corner, nearest to you, and work your walk counter-clockwise. Be sure to let prism tanks take out yuri clones and gattling guns while your mirage tanks take care of lasher and gattling tanks. Along the way you see a new tech building a Tech Machine Shop which if you capture it slowly repairs your armor units near it, emphasis on SLOWLY. After you destroy each grinder you receive a money crate with 2000 credits.

    As you go from Grinder to Grinder be sure to take out any garrisoned buildings, they are much more powerful than GI or conscript garrisoned buildings. When you get to the Grinder near the stadium Sammie Stallion come under your command and destroys the grinder and anything else that is near him. Take him along but be sure to keep him safe, not that it matters, Next you'll come to the Grinder with Arnie Frankenfurter he disposes of the Yuri forces in much of the same way Sammie did, but he doesn't have any weapons against structures, just infantry. By this time you should have taken out all of the Grinders and have at least one elite prism tanks and several veteran mirage and prism tanks, sorry Arnie, Sammie, and Flint don't get promoted.

    Note at this point you can take your small army and take out all the gattling guns, lasher tanks and gattling tanks that patrol near LAX, if you capture LAX you get a paradrop of six GI's. I don't it is worth worrying about but it is nice to get ride of all those Yuri tanks that roam around that part of the map. Now move up the left hand side of the map destroying any Yuri units and structures. Now move near the cliffs where the gattling guns protect the entrances, not a problem for you prism tanks. Then methodically move through the base, the only things that pose real threats are: yuri clones, gattling guns, and slave miners, but each is easily destroyed from outside their range with prism tanks. After you destroy all of the Yuri barracks, mcv, and war factories the computer usually sells all their buildings and then you accomplish your mission which doesn't required you to kill all the units although it is kinda fun to "frag" bunch of initiates.
