Sahara Mirage Map Size: Medium/Large
Map Terrain: Desert
Recommended Side: Yuri
Author: Erikmcfar
General Overview
Sahara Mirage is as you might expect a desert map, but it is one of the best desert maps and best overall maps in YR. The entire map is all desert except for the middle which is a oasis which a city surrounding the oasis and a small pond in the very center of the map. It is also one of the largest two player maps in the game, which make for fun game play and the starting positions are located at the top right and bottom left of the map, or directly across from each other. And as a side note it is my favorite map on YR.

Tech Buildings
There are eight tech buildings on Sahara Mirage. Six oil derricks a tech airport and machine tech shop. To locate the tech buildings reimagine the clock on the map and one oil derrick is located at roughly both the 12 and 6 o'clock position, two oil derricks are located in the top left and bottom right corners. The tech airport is located on the northwest(top-left) side of the city, where the road enters and the tech machine shop is located on the opposite(southeast/bottom-right) side of city.

Team Selection
Due to the fact that the center and oil derricks are very important on this map Yuri is probably the best choice because the brute is very effective at securing tech buildings while their engineer take them and because the center is surrounded by a ring of buildings the initiate garrisoned is very, very powerful.

Yuri: I guess that in the case of Yuri its one side fits all because there is not faction within yuri, but despite this he is probably the safest choice on this map.

Allies: I would suggest using America on this map there are several buildings to garrison near the center of the map and near to secure gem and ore access in the middle. Korea is also good because you can quickly take out any building or unit that stands in your way. France can be effective if used properly to defend against your tech buildings. Germany is really not that effective against any team. Britain is only effective against yuri, america, and Iraq, but they are limited at that.

Soviets: Iraq is the best overall and the best choice because if of its effectiveness against infantry. Russia is okay I guess, but not that effective, Cuba and Libya are very risky against a yuri opponent, but good at taking out trouble spots.

Economy
Each starting position has a huge ore patch near it and besides that you have to go to the center to find a patch of ore and gems, so you have to be fairly thrifty and wise in your spending.

Walkthrough

Yuri: Start with the usual bio-reactor, barracks, and slave miner. After your barracks is up build three brutes, a couple of initiates and three to six engineers. First send a brute to each corner of the map with the oil derricks and guard them while your engineers capture them. Send one brute to scout the enemy base. Send the initiates to garrison the buildings next to the two tech buildings in the middle and then capture them with engineers. After your first slave miner is up build a war factory and after that is up build another slave miner and another one from your war factory. If you got the paradrop then use it to secure more buildings in the area. After you have three to four slave miners going, build another war factory and start churning out lashers, gattlings, and magnetrons and chaos drones. After you get your battle lab up build a few masterminds and floating discs. Once you have a sizable force you are ready to attack the enemy start by attacking any tech buildings, miners or stray units he has on the map then attack his base, be sure to keep your chaos drones back until the battle starts then zip them in and cause chaos. This should work, but if they are still alive build a fleet of floating discs and wipe them out.

Allies: Start by building power plant, barracks, and refinery. After building a barracks build a few dogs and send them to the corners to secure tech buildings and build some engineers and capture them and secure them w/pillboxes also build a GI or two and garrison a key building or two, near the tech buildings in the center. If you are playing an allied player you might want to build one patriot missile system in case of a rocketeer rush, otherwise don't bother. Then build a war factory, one or two miners and then an AFC and then another refinery, sell the second refinery. After your second refinery build a battle lab and take advantage of high tech units and structures. If you are playing a yuri play be sure to build a robot control center and several additional power plants to make sure you have plenty of power. Next build another refinery in the center off of one of the tech buildings you captured...right? You should have a nice economy at this point. Start churning out tanks and send a few mirages towards the enemy ore field and take out the enemy economy. Then take out any assets your opponent has, tech buildings or units, and after you tie up all the loose ends go for your opponents throat and destroy his army and base. If playing a yuri opponent use robot tanks up front to defend against psychic and chaos drones.

Soviets: Start by building tesla reactor, barracks, and refinery. After building a barracks build a few dogs and send them to the corners to secure tech buildings and build some engineers and capture them and secure them w/sentry gun also build a conscript or two and garrison a key building or two, near the tech buildings in the center. Then build a war factory and then another refinery, sell the second refinery. After the war factory build two miners and three tanks and a couple of terror drones. If you are playing an allied player you might want to build one flack cannon in case of a rocketeer rush, otherwise don't bother. The terror drone is very effective in a yuri battle, just keep them away from gattling tanks. You should have a fairly decent economy at this point, build a radar and build another refinery near the center so you can take advantage of it. Start churning out tanks, and siege copters. This is the only time I would suggest building a superweapon, unless against a big time turtle. Build an iron curtain and use it on terror drones and then wreak havoc on enemy units, you should be able to take out a big chuck of his army. Then take out any assets your opponent has, tech buildings or units, and after you eliminate any units roaming around the map, send you army and destroy his army and his base.

I hope this improves your game on Sahara Mirage.
